Bad times, brilliant designs

Whilst London burns, the US downgrades and Greece goes up the river Styx without a paddle, here’s something to ponder:

“Bad times have a scientific value. These are occasions a good learner would not miss.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

This little learner is absorbing it all, taking it in, turning it over and looking for the hidden upside.  I’m thinking that a crisis in retail confidence leads to an increase in creativity – people seek ways around the doldrums and dig deep to find new ways of living well and finding value.  Recycling, upcycling, repurposing and renovating second hand finds. Giving old things new life.  Buying well made goods with lasting appeal.  Buying less but getting more satisfaction. It’s all good.

live in the sunshine…

live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air’s salubrity…

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Words to live by.

(Quote truncated due to laziness of embroiderer and reduced reading age of modern times, with apologies to Mr Emerson. Salubrity = Healthfulness = spending more time swimming in the sunshine versus sewing).
